  1. Okay upfront I'm going to be honest and state that I tagged this but never really read all the way through the recipe instructions. So I made this exactly as written except for one little thing (hee hee) - I made it on the stove top and not in a slow cooker and we ate in after 30 minutes and not 4-6 hours! But I'm not sorry one bit - the flavors are outstanding even with a shortened amount of time. I just made it like normal sloppy joes of browning meat, draining fat, adding celery & onions and letting them cook for 15 and then added the remainder of the ingredients and cooked for an additional 15-20 minutes. My teenage son gobbled down 3 sandwiches and kept ymmm-ing while eating. My hubby and I really loved the flavors too - not overly spicy and has a tinge of sweetness but not too much. I'm just thrilled I tagged this in Zaar Stars tag game.

  2. I love a recipe that is a favorite of the cook.We really enjoyed it also as I made as written except I did not use the crock pot.It is a Friday evening so too late for that.Thank you so much for a keeper.

  3. Sautéed 2 onions and celery in olive oil first, then added garlic when soft. Added 2.5 lbs ground bison, stir until well browned, about 10 min. Reduce heat, then add 3-4T tomato paste, let it caramelize a bit, then add 1C tomato sauce and 1/2C ketchup, cook a bit, then add Worcestershire, mustard and chili powder (I omitted the brown sugar). Cook another 15-20 min on stovetop. Served on onion buns.

  4. My nine-year old Daughter and I made this together; it was her first-time ever having a Sloppy Joe (which, because she does not like things that are messy, I had to call Manwich even though it's a terribly sexist name but is still better than "Saucy Meatwich").We loved them.In the spirit of full disclosure, I will say that I fully intended on following the recipe exactly, BUT, as I added the browned beef to the sauce, I did decide to not add all of the beef because it seemed as if doing so would have resulted in WAY more beef than sauce.Other than that, we did as the recipe instructed, and were very pleased with the result. Thanks for posting this, and helping make my Daughter's first Sloppy Joe/Manwich/Saucy Meatwich Experience a great one.

  5. Great recipe! Made the house smell so good I kept going to "taste" it in the slow cooker!! This disappeared super fast and we loved it!

  1. The only thing I added was chopped green bell pepper! Turned out great. Although, as another had posted, I didnt use my crock pot because I down sized it so much for 3 servings, that I just used my large frying pan with lid. Simmered very low for about 45 min.

  2. Really great version of sloppy joes! I used ground turkey instead of beef, otherwise made as directed. Served some for dinner and packaged the rest in single-serving pouches to put in the freezer for quick lunches/dinners later. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
