Mozzarella Stuffed Meatloaf: What You’ll Need

For the meatloaf:

  • Ground beef: Use 80/20 or 85/15 ground beef. If you use 90/10 lean ground beef, you’ll end up with a dry meatloaf!
  • Breadcrumbs: Use panko breadcrumbs.
  • Seasonings: Kosher salt, black peppers, and Italian seasoning.
  • Cheeses: Slices of provolone and (of course!) shredded mozzarella cheese should do the trick.
  • Worcestershire sauce: For that tangy-yet-sweet flavor.
  • Other liquid ingredients: Milk and egg to bind it all together.

For the ketchup topping:

  • Liquid ingredients: Ketchup (of course!), Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar for a tangy flair.
  • Brown sugar: For a touch of sweetness.
  • Garlic: Minced.
  • Cayenne pepper: For just the slightest hint of heat. This shouldn’t be too much for sensitive eaters, however.

Variations:

Meatloaf is versatile as it is, so unsurprisingly, you can change up your mozzarella stuffed meatloaf as you’d like. You can try:

  • Using different cheeses. Cheddar cheese, swiss, parmesan cheese and even blue cheese taste fantastic with this meatloaf.
  • Adding more to the filling. I like using mushrooms, basil, onions, or bell peppers in the “filling” layer, depending on what I have available!
