Chapter 2:

The moment you got home from your ‘late shift’, you were exhausted. Your eyes were heavy, and your knuckles burned from the continuous impact with a variety of objects. Note: Do not try to fight Rhino with nothing but your fists, even if you do have superhuman strength. You had learned that the hard way, unfortunately. You headed up to look through your window, making sure Miles had been sound asleep. Exposing your true identity would be a disaster. You slid open the window with a huff, half tempted to collapse on the floor at that very second. You slipped off the suit, watching it fall to the floor. You slipped it into your bookbag, rubbing your eyes with a loud yawn. You headed over to your bed, immediately closing your eyes and falling asleep.

“Y/N?”, You woke up to someone shaking your shoulders, sitting up slowly. Your eyes made contact with Miles’, adjusting to the bright light in the room. You were still as exhausted as you were the night before. Your chest and eyes felt heavy. It was the worst feeling in the world. But, why had Miles woken you up? It was Saturday morning, and obviously not too late. However, the time on the clock said otherwise. It was currently 5 PM, and the sun was setting. You hesitantly sat up, shooing away Miles with a singular wave of your hand, to which he sat down at his desk. You stood up from your bed with a stretch, staring down at the large bruises from your fight. A few were scattered across your chest and back, other on your arms and legs. Every inch you moved stung. Miles looked up at you and your bruises, raising an eyebrow.

“You okay there?”
“I’m fine.”
“.. Are you su-?”
“Certain. Thank you for your concern.”

You pushed him off once more, making him hesitantly return to his laptop. You head over to your dresser, opening the first drawer and picking out a plain white tee. Throwing it on, your eyes locked on Miles laptop. You stared at the odd letters and numbers on the screen, allowing them to make sense. .. Another Spider-Man nerd who was trying to be a superhero. Disappointing, really, but not at all surprising. You headed over to him, hovering over his shoulder. Upon seeing your reflection on the screen, Miles quickly closed the laptop's screen. You were confused, yes, but didn’t question it.

“What was that?”
“Nothing, nothing! Just some.. Designs?”

He chuckled nervously, wringing the back of his neck. You assumed it was some nerd stuff, but what were these ‘designs’ he spoke of? It piqued your interest. Not many things did that nowadays. This seemingly normal boy was making advanced machines and suits? Something immediately seemed off. You remembered what happened only one or two days prior. When the two of you made eye contact, your head stung. From the looks of it, his stung too. It was odd, but somehow made this boy even more intriguing.

“What kind of designs?”
“Uhh.. Fanmade suit and gadget designs!”
“For what? A contest?”
“Nope! Just for fun.”
“... You’re designing advanced suits and gadgets for fun?”
“Yep!”
“You’re odd.”
“I guess you could say that!”
“Can I see?”
“Yeah, for sure!”

Miles hurried to open his laptop, gesturing to your empty office chair beside him. You sat yourself into it, scooching closer to him. You watched it power on, unlocking once Miles carefully typed in the password. Lines of code and pictures came onto the screen, all with names and uses. They were impressive. You were left to wonder how someone like him did something so advanced.

“This one’s an-”
“A remake of his cyro cubes, right?”
“.. Yeah, it is.”
“Cool.”
“How did you know that?”
“Doesn’t everyone?”
“No, not really.”
“That’s disappointing.”
“I didn’t think you’d be a SpiderMan nerd too, Y/N.”
“I wouldn’t say I’m a nerd.”
“Whatever you say, Y/N.”
“What are your opinions on the new guy?”
“Who? SpiderMan 2.0?”
“Yeah, him.”
“In my opinion, he’s pretty lame.”
“.. What?”
“Yeah, I get that’s sorta an unpopular opinion. Sure, the guys.. Shockers are cool and all, but-”
“Whatever.”

You turned away from the computer with a yawn, unhappy with his opinion. You knew this new guy had potential, and firmly believed in him. Not many people did. But, from a hero’s perspective, you knew he could do something; something wonderful. You were happy to say that. You’d be able to say you called it later on, after all.

“I’m going back to bed.”, you spoke in a stern tone, hovering your hand over your mouth as you yawned. He looked at you with a concerned expression on his face. Even if you were both 16 year olds, you had to admit that even you’d be concerned with how much you had slept. Meeting his gaze, you managed to force out a chuckle. Why was he so worried for you if you’d hardly met before? It felt odd, but.. Somewhat good as well.

“I’m fine, Miles. I just had a rough shift last night. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight, Y/N.”

You felt a smile creep onto your lips, throwing yourself onto the bottom bunk of your shared bed. You closed your eyes quickly, falling asleep almost immediately. You woke up once or twice, the first time seeing Miles on his laptop. And, the next, he had left. Supposedly for a late shift. Your eyes locked on the laptop for a moment or two, only focusing on the words Rhino and park. Only assuming what had happened, you threw yourself out of bed, stretching your bruised arms and legs. You threw on your suit quickly, glancing around before closing the laptop he’d left open. You opened the window, feeling the cold breeze on your face. Hopping out, you flew to Central Park in an attempt to assist whoever was in need of.. Well, assistance.
